On November 17, 2006, PS3 launched in the US and Canada with a estimated price tag of $549.00 (cdn) and $499.00 (us) for the basic model while the premium PS3 sells for $659.00 (cdn) and $599.00 (us) respectively. Supply is expected to be limited with reports of several large retailers wondering if they will be able to fill all pre-order requests.

Sony Confirms PS3 Debut Games

In a news release from Sony Entertainment, it was announced that about 20 titles will be available throughout the holiday season, priced competively at around $60 a game:

More than 60,000 show up for the 2006 E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) conference, which is held annually at Sony Picture Studios, in Los Angeles. Kaz Hirai, president of Sony, announced that the highly anticipated Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) will be released in Japan on November 11 and will be available in the North American market on November 17, 2006. Also revealed at the conference, the new PS3 will come in two configurations. The first offers a 20 gigabyte harddrive, while the other sports a hefty 60 gig drive for all your gaming pleasures.

Perhaps the most sought after information revealed at E3 was the price of the PS3 unit. It's now confirmed that the 20 gig unit will retail at $499 US ($549 - $599 CDN) and the 60 gig at $599 US ($679 - $699 CDN).
